Welcome to Monica Burton Yoga. Monica is a highhly respected and influential Yoga teacher. A reputation earned through her work at a strategic level with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) and by providing the foundations for launching the career path of hundreds of Yoga practitioners through teacher training.
Monica gained her BWY Diploma in 1980, 730 City & Guilds Certificate in Teaching in 1982; and became a Diploma Certified Trainer in 1984. She has been running BWY Teacher Training courses continuously to the present day.
Monica trained the first and only blind BWY teacher on her first diploma course. She has organised and conducted seminars, In Service Training events, Yoga holidays and retreats in destinations including Tobago, France, Kenya, Ireland and Scotland and the European Yoga Conference in Zinal Switzerland.
Monica was the London Regional Officer for 9 years.and is an ex- Chairman of the BWY. The very successful London Yoga Festival now in its 18th year is her brainchild.
Monica developed and wrote the BWY "Yoga for the Third Age" module and successfully piloted three courses during its first year. Monica is a course verifier for the Education Committee of the BWY; she was the first In-Service-Training Officer of the BWY for 3.5 years and is currently a verifier for 4 Diploma Courses and 1 Foundation Course.
Monica has taught in schools, conducted pilot schemes for dealing with special needs and worked in three Special Needs centres for 13 years. In addition, she has run Stress Management, Assertiveness, Personal Development and Auto-hypnosis courses for several Local Education Authorities and businesses as part of their management training.
Monica's background as a State Registered Nurse and experience in Radiotherapy working in a cancer unit has enabled her to apply a deep understanding of how the body works to her Yoga practice and teaching.
She holds a Diploma in Therapeutic Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and a Reiki Master; Her own practice is integrated Hatha Yoga , vipasana and Zoto Zen Meditation.
