"Monica started me off on my Yoga teaching journey in 1992. Her course provided me with the solid foundations I continue to build on to this day. Her emphasis on adapting anything we teach to a student's individual needs has enabled me to develop the flexible approach I now use and to gradually specialise in one-to-one tuition, which has become a life-long passion. Monica has very high standards and I cannot thank her enough for that! She helped me and my group become the professional Yoga teachers our students need and deserve.

About Ginny Kempster

In 1988 Ginny was fortunate to have Monica Burton as her DCT and has been teaching Yoga ever since.   Over those years she has taught many classes, weekends, holidays, etc. and has been a recognised IST tutor since 2006.

Ginny has worked with many wonderful teachers, all of whom have been a source of inspiration.  Over the past 16 years she has continued her study of Yoga with Sandra Sabatini, one of Vanda Scaravelli’s primary students, in Italy and the UK.

Through Ginny’s many years of teaching and study with Sandra she has developed an approach to various aspects of Yoga which is practical and approachable.  She works to bring acute attention to the sensations which occur naturally in our bodies all the time and to guide the awareness to the actions and reactions which result from them.

‘The application of this approach to Yoga is both accessible and applicable to the range of styles taught in yoga classes and reflects the primary purpose of asana which is to assist in the settling of the mind and body...’

From an article written by George Lane - published in BWY London Newsletter 2014

Masterclass Course Review
Bones for Life with Movement for pleasure
with Marye Wyvill

Picture
Saturday 11th November 2017

Venue: Orley Farm School,
South Hill Ave,
Harrow
HA1 3NU

Bones for Life with Movement for pleasure with Marye Wyvill on 11 November 2017 took place at the leafy setting of Orley Farm School in Harrow, North West London.  The all-day masterclass was attended by a mixed group of students and teachers.

The session began with a discussion about what can be observe when we witness people walking. For example, what are the potential pain points and detrimental health affects caused by walking styles and posture and the all-pervasive modern habit of stooping to view handheld media screens.
During the course of the day attendees explored the corrective benefits that can be gained from knowing how to sit properly. There is a lot pressure put on the body’s organs, muscles, brain and bones by parking it for 8 hours or more each day on a chair and sofa. It is therefore vitally important to really concentrate on adopting correct postures to avoid slumping on chairs and sofas to avoid building up potentially serious health problems in the body.  Attendees were shown how the rib basket circled the body.  Mary

described the rib cage as a basket, because when you feel this area it is in fact the shape of the basket and students got to appreciate the sheer size of it when time is taken to feel it.

What did amaze us all was the fact that all the curative movements and pressure on the bones demonstrated by Mary were gentle, and that it did not take much effort and practice to get the bones and skeleton revitalised.  Mary also demonstrated

how to realigned the entire spine when coming out from a forward bend – specifically the importance of lifting our head correctly when coming out of posture to gain the maximum benefits.

It was an enlightening day enjoyed by all who attended and highly recommended to those who were not able to make it.

Students were shown many other practices and movements. All of the movements were soft featuring a combination of wavy hands and arms and included knowing how to walk. These practices were a revelation and reminder of how we have lost our innate body rhythms due to grind of our western lifestyles.

It was an enlightening day enjoyed by all who attended and highly recommended to those who were not able to make it. Mary will be coming back in October 2018 which will be a continuation of this masterclass.  Details to follow.

This is one of many masterclasses that will be organised by Monica and me.
