Yoga practice

Yoga is both a systematised body of knowledge and a practice.

Yoga is not so much about gaining flexibility; it is rather more about discarding rigidity, and tension. In the practice we concentrate on the body, the breath and the mind.

The postures  [exercises] are designed to work the spine in the four ways it moves, forward, backward, sideways flexion and rotation and to stimulate all bodily systems. The focus is on calmness in activity. We release into the movements rather than using force and struggle.

Hatha Yoga is the yoga you will be practising. It is taught in a non-competitive, non-aggressive manner exercising in the correct sequence progressing from the simple to the complex at YOUR OWN pace. Struggling and creating stress is totally counter productive.

Anyone can practise yoga regardless of age, ability, disability, gender or state of health.  The postures are modified to meet different needs. Please inform me of any medical ailments you have.

At the end of a session you will feel much more flexible because of the range of movements. Much calmer because of the breathing practises. Much more relaxed because of the relaxation techniques and teaching methods used throughout the session. Each individual will progress at his/her own rate. With sustained practice you will experience the holistic value of this wonderfully simple system that stands on it own.
